Travelling to Northern Greece with a baby or toddler? You've made a great choice. The region has warm, calm seas, excellent food, and a genuinely relaxed pace of life that suits families well. But not all destinations are equal when you're travelling with a little one. Here's our honest guide to the five best spots — and what makes each one work for families with babies.
1. Kassandra Peninsula, Halkidiki
Kassandra is the closest of Halkidiki's three peninsulas to Thessaloniki, which makes it the easiest to reach and the most developed for tourism. For families with babies, that's largely a good thing.
The beaches here tend to be well-organised, with sunbeds, shallow entry points, and nearby facilities. Kallithea and Sani are particularly good choices — the water is calm and clear, the sand is fine, and the gradual depth makes paddling with a baby genuinely easy rather than nerve-wracking.
What makes Kassandra work so well for families is the sheer variety of accommodation — from small apartments to larger villas — all within easy reach of the beach. Most resorts and holiday rentals in the area are set up for families, with pools, on-site restaurants, and plenty of space. You don't need to go far for anything, which when you're managing feeds, naps, and nappy changes, is genuinely valuable.
The evenings here are lovely too — Greek seaside villages come alive after sunset, and tavernas welcome babies and toddlers without a second thought. A long dinner on a terrace with a sleeping baby in a stroller beside you is one of the great pleasures of a Greek family holiday.
Practical tip: The drive from Thessaloniki Airport to Kassandra takes around 60–90 minutes. A properly fitted car seat is essential — and much easier to have delivered to your arrival point than to wrestle onto a plane. We deliver car seats across the Kassandra peninsula.
2. Sithonia — Vourvourou & Nikiti
If Kassandra is the lively, resort-heavy peninsula, Sithonia is its quieter, more beautiful sibling. The landscape is greener, the water is more turquoise, and the beaches feel less crowded — which, when you're managing a baby's nap schedule and feeding times, is exactly what you want.
Vourvourou is the standout for families with very young babies. The bay is practically enclosed, which means the water is flat calm even on windier days. You can sit at a beach taverna with a coffee while your baby naps in a stroller in the shade, and it genuinely feels like a holiday rather than a logistical exercise.
Nikiti, on the west coast of Sithonia, has a lovely old village with narrow pedestrian streets — surprisingly pram-friendly once you get used to the cobblestones — and good beaches nearby.
Practical tip: Villas and apartments in Sithonia rarely come with baby equipment as standard. A travel cot, high chair, and baby bath tub make a huge difference to how comfortable your stay feels. We deliver to the full Sithonia coastline.
3. Thermaikos — Nea Michaniona & Epanomi
Thermaikos doesn't get mentioned in the travel guides as often as Halkidiki, but for families with babies it deserves serious consideration — especially if it's your first time travelling with a little one.
The coastline just south of Thessaloniki, around Nea Michaniona and Epanomi, is flat, accessible, and just 30–40 minutes from Thessaloniki Airport. There are no mountain roads, no long drives, and no complicated logistics. You land, you get in the car, and you're at your accommodation in under an hour.
The beaches here are long and wide, with calm water and plenty of shade from beach bars and tamarisk trees. The promenade at Nea Michaniona is wide and completely flat — easy for strollers and ideal for evening walks with a baby who won't settle.
The local tavernas are excellent and genuinely family-friendly in the Greek tradition — babies and toddlers are welcomed warmly, and you'll be offered a high chair without having to ask.
Practical tip: This area is ideal if you want to combine beach time with a day trip into Thessaloniki. The city is one of Greece's most underrated destinations — great food, interesting history, and a waterfront promenade that's surprisingly easy to navigate with a pram.
4. Thermi & the Thessaloniki Riviera
Thermi sits just east of Thessaloniki, where the city meets the sea. It's become increasingly popular with families in recent years, and it's easy to see why: you get the convenience of being close to the city with the relaxed feel of a coastal town.
The beaches along the Thessaloniki Riviera — from Thermi down through Angelochori — are calm and well-maintained. The water warms up quickly in early summer and stays warm well into September, which is ideal if you're travelling with a baby who needs comfortable water temperatures.
Being so close to Thessaloniki means you have access to good hospitals and medical facilities if needed — something that matters more than most parents like to admit when they're travelling with a very young baby for the first time. There are also large supermarkets nearby for stocking up on nappies, formula, and anything else you've forgotten.
Practical tip: Thermi is one of our most popular delivery areas. Being just 10–15 minutes from Thessaloniki Airport, it's a great base if you want to keep things simple — arrive, settle in, and enjoy without a long transfer.
5. Peraia & Neoi Epivates
Just south of Thessaloniki, Peraia and Neoi Epivates are among the most popular summer destinations for local families — and once you visit, it's obvious why. The coastline here is long and gently shelving, with warm, shallow water that's ideal for babies and toddlers who are just getting used to the sea.
The area has a lively but unpretentious feel in summer — beach bars, tavernas, and ice cream shops lining the waterfront, families spread out along the shore from morning until evening. It's the kind of place where nobody bats an eye at a baby in a pram or a toddler having a meltdown at lunchtime. Everyone here is in family mode.
Peraia in particular has a wide, flat seafront promenade that runs for several kilometres — perfect for long stroller walks morning or evening when the heat eases off. The area is well-served by supermarkets, pharmacies, and everything else you might need at short notice with a baby in tow.
The proximity to Thessaloniki Airport — under 20 minutes — makes it one of the most practical choices for families flying in, especially with young babies where you want to minimise travel time after landing.
Practical tip: This is one of the most convenient areas we deliver to. If you're arriving late or with a very young baby and want to be settled quickly, Peraia and Neoi Epivates are hard to beat.
